Recently, we came across one issue where we need to **sanitize** `to` email addresses before we send emails. 

Laravel provides a `Mail` facade to send emails. Here is the syntax to send emails. 

```php
$contact = ActService::getContactById($id);
$emails = $request->get('emails');

Mail::to($emails)->send(new SendChangedInvoice($contact)); 
```

There are multiple places where these pieces of code are in the project and want to sanitize emails before actually sending emails. 

Technically, It is not possible to override the `Facade` in Laravel because Facade itself is a wrapper of the underlying class that it represents.

For example here `Mail` facade is the wrapper of `Illuminate\Mail\Mailer` class. When you do `Mail::send()`, under the hood, the "getFacadeAccessor" is used to reference an instance of the `Illuminate\Mail\Mailer` class bound in the IoC container.

### Solution

Use custom class instead of `Mail` Facade. 

 ```php
/*  Remove Mail Facade */  
// use Mail; 

/* Use custom mail class*/
use App\Services\Mail
```

Custom `Mail` class implementation 

```php 
namespace App\Services;

class Mail
{
    public static function to($emails)
    {
        return app('mailer')->to(sanitize_mail_emails($emails));
    }

    public static function __callStatic($name, $arguments)
    {
        return app('mailer')->$name(...$arguments);
    }
}
```

Here the  `to`  method is overridden and added custom sanitize code and return `to` method from `Illuminate\Mail\Mailer` class. Basically, `app('mailer')` resolves to the `Illuminate\Mail\Mailer` class. 

Second, if you look at `__callStatic` that will handle all other static methods on the `Mail` facade. That's how you just have to change the import `use App\Services\Mail` and other functionalities should work fine as it is.
